Reunion in the forest!

Stayed 4 days in July, 2014
We were staying in the Vargas home for a family reunion. Other family units stayed at other homes nearby. Beautiful forest setting. The Vargas home was perfect for my girlfriend and I, my brother and his wife and my mom. We also used the home as a gathering
place for the larger family. The deck was nice and had a barbecue. The only unfortunate issue was the hot weather--we timed our stay for a nice heat wave! The home was not air conditioned and it did not cool down at night much. A/C would be nice but realize
the vast majority of days it's much cooler.
Visited White Pines Lake, Lake Alpine, Calaveras Big Trees park, caverns, horseback riding and just plain relaxing at the homes and decks with family.
The Vargas cabin certainly is one of our most popular. The beautiful forest setting can't be beat! Most homes in the area do not have air conditioning because the elevation is 5,000 feet. The best thing to do during hot periods in homes without a/c is to open all windows at night and close them up first thing in the morning while leaving the fans going. It's what locals refer to as "mountain air conditioning". We do tend to see the hottest days at the end of July. It makes for a great reason to visit the many area lakes, creeks, and the Stanislaus River!
