In the winter we are just a 15-minute drive to a sledding park and a 30 minute drive to Bear Valley Ski Resort featuring ski lessons and rentals for all ages. Whether you are returning from outdoor adventure, or choose to stay 'll find plenty of places in the cabin to cozy up with a good book and a glass of wine, or head downstairs to the game room where more fun awaits with an arcade-sized Buck Hunter and foosball table. The Dancing Bear Cabin is set at a 4,300 foot elevation in the Blue Lake Springs neighborhood in the town of Arnold, about a 2.5 to 3 hour drive from San Francisco or San Jose. Dancing Bear is across from the pool & lake at Snow Flake Lodge! And ~30 minutes to Bear Valley Ski Resort. Additionally, just minutes from Calaveras Big Trees State Park where kids enjoy playing on the hillside looking for treasures (the perfect pinecone!), hiking and playing year-round. This comfortable, clean and spacious house is family-friendly with many games, movies & books for all ages! For the little ones, owner's have provided the following (but not guaranteed) a baby gate (for the stairs), playpen, a highchair, booster seat, step stool. In addition, you will find free wifi, television, DVD/CD player & VCR. On the main level there are 2 bedrooms with queen beds, 1 full bathroom, and a great room - with foosball - open to the remodeled kitchen. The upstairs loft has 2 double beds, a twin bed and a 2nd bathroom with a shower. The laundry room is downstairs where you will also find the tire swing to clip on the big tree out front. In the winter we have at times enjoyed building snowmen, snowball fights and, just simply watching the snow drift down to blanket the deck and trees in pure white. There are snow-parks nearby for sledding, and Bear Valley is a family-friendly resort for downhill and cross-country skiing. Outdoor recreation includes hiking at Calaveras Big Trees State Park, golf at Sequoia Woods Golf Course or Forest Meadow, swimming, fishing, kayaking or boating at Lake Alpine, Spicer, Utica and New Melones reservoirs. With an entrance fee, the private Snowflake Lodge (across the street) offers fantastic recreation, including a lake, pool, snack bar, play yard, basketball courts, horse shoes and tennis courts. Proximity to the lodge is very convenient for carrying pool toys for the kids or going up to the house to get snacks to enjoy by the lake. The Lodge also offers various children’s entertainment, such as arts, crafts, and stories, bingo, swimming lessons and tennis lessons. In the summer months, Blue Lake Springs typically offers movies at the outdoor amphitheater to enjoy with the whole family. There are numerous wineries nearby, including Ironstone Vineyards, which also offers a series of summer concerts in their beautiful outdoor amphitheater. Columbia State Historic Park which is a restored old West town right out of the 1800s with gold panning and a unique blend of museums, town tours, live theater plays, shops, restaurants and attractions is also nearby. Our classic A-Frame cabin is located less than 25mi from the Bear Valley Ski Resort and Lake Alpine. You’re close to the town of Arnold, yet tucked away among beautiful tall trees and 5,000ft altitude for excellent winter and nature experiences. Listen to the sounds of the forest - and nothing else - during mild summer evenings on the redwood deck, enjoy the Sierra skies with thousands of stars while sipping on a glass of wine and sitting in one of the provided Adirondack lounging chairs. You have the entire cabin to yourself and access to the onsite shed for extra storage space to store your skis and bikes. The home has just above 1,200 square feet of tastefully upgraded living space. You’ll appreciate the carefully designed blend of mid-century modern furniture, boho style elements and alpine touches in our original 1970’s A-Frame vacation home. The cabin has three sleeping areas (two bedrooms and one loft), one full bathroom on the main living floor, an open kitchen, dining and living space and one half bathroom on the loft level. The upstairs beds can be arranged as a king-sized configuration or as two separate twin beds. Most mattresses have new memory foam toppers and European bedding for excellent sleeping comfort. A perfect retreat for one or two couples, single travelers, digital nomads (200MB internet speed), and families. A wood burning fireplace and central heating will keep the cabin warm and comfortable during the cold winter nights. 2 TVs with Netflix, Youtube and Amazon Prime, an Xbox game console and a good selection of board games, puzzles and children’s books will keep you entertained. The outside area of the house has a large, wrap-around outdoor deck with a gas BBQ, dining set and deck chairs. There is also a tree swing for kids (use at own risk). During the summer months, you'll have full access to Big Trees Village Recreational Center, which boasts bocce, pickleball, tennis & basketball courts, volleyball, ball field, frisbee golf, playground, picnic & bbq area, snack bar and 2 pools!
